What is a Root Canal Treatment?
Root canal treatment(RCT) is the process of removing the inflamed or infected pulp tissue from within the tooth and the concept of root canal treatment is necessary to understand the tissue called Pulp.
What is the pulp?
The pulp, commonly referred to as “the nerve of the tooth”, is comprised of Blood vessels, Nerves, and Connective tissue. Root canal treatment consists of removing inflamed or infected pulp tissue within the tooth.
Why is a Root Canal Treatment necessary?
Decay tooth
-when a tooth is a Deep decay (cavity), A cracked tooth, or Traumatic dental injury. Bacteria cause tooth decay. As Bacteria enter the pulp, they cause tissue destruction spreading through the pulp and into the root of the canal. If left the decay tooth untreated the bacteria can spread out of the tooth. It causes pathology and infection in the bone and the tooth region.
The pulp’s defense against bacteria is inflammation or When the level of inflammation where the pulp tissue will not recover and heal. Eventually, this will lead to an infected pulp (“dead nerve”), followed by a dental abscess (infection).

Cracked tooth
-A crown or a cap is necessary to restore a cracked tooth to normal chewing function. It prevents its loss to further fracture. A root canal is often necessary to remove the inflamed and infected pulp prior to crown placement

Traumatic injury
– Traumatic tooth May expose the pulp or May disrupt the blood supply to the pulp
How do I know if my tooth needs a Root Canal Treatment and What Are the Signs and symptoms that you may need treatment for?
*Pressure Pain – sensitivity when biting or pressing on the tooth
*Temperature – sensitivity to hot or cold, especially if it is prolonged or lingers.
*Spontaneous or constant dental pain – Swelling, Ranging from a small bump discharging pus on the gum to a swollen jaw. Then some teeth requiring root canal treatment have no symptoms.
Diagnostic Tests – To confirm that It is necessary. We will perform specific tests on your tooth x-rays, which help in accurately assessing the status of the pulp.
Is Root Canal Treatment Painful?
-No, when a dentist administered local anesthesia to numb the affected tooth region ensuring a painless treatment.
Root Canal Treatment procedure steps:-
- In the first step– a local anesthetic is administered to numb the tooth and increase the comfort of the patient during the procedure.
- Second step– The dentist can then drill into the affected tooth’s crown to open the pulp chamber to find root canals. When a dentist finds a root canal then allows specialized dental instruments like Rottatery fils or k- fils to be inserted into the pulp chamber and root canals to clean the inflamed or infected pulp from the area with the help of irrigation. The remaining space is cleaned, irrigated properly, then dry canals and shaped to make space for a filling, which will replace the pulp in the tooth.
- Third step– The root canal can then be filled with a suitable biocompatible material, such as gutta-percha. A dental sealer is also usually used to ensure that the root canal is properly sealed and to prevent future infections in the root area.
- Final step– Once the root canal has been filled, a temporary filling or composite is usually put in place over the opening to seal it. After a crown or cap is usually placed over the tooth to protect it over the long term.
